Nelson Mandela:


Anti-apartheid, South African revolutionary. Spent 27-years in prison for conspiracy to overthrow the state (run by Apartheid-era Prime Minister Hendrik Verwoerd). Released from prison in 1990 he became South Africa’s first black president in 1994. He died in 2013. Beloved by millions, his philosophies earned him the title “founding father of democracy” within South Africa.

Hendrik Verwoerd:


South African that conceived and implemented Apartheid: the idea of dividing ethnic groups in the country. He served as Prime Minister from 1958 until his assassination in 1966. His ideas resulted in massive change. And ultimately, cost him his life.
